Girard Stewart first opened the doors to Stewart’s Jewelers in St. Marys about 70 years ago.  The store’s original location was in the building now occupied by Dave’s Pro Shop. The store was later moved to its present location of 114 South Michael Street.

Girard owned and operated the store for 42 years.   In May of 1986, Girard sold to the store to his son, Warren Stewart.  Warren has been the primary jeweler since assuming ownership. 

 

Following graduation from high school, Warren attended the Joseph Bulova School of Watch Making in Woodside, NY.  There he learned the basics of his craft.  Upon commencement, he worked with his father for several years and in various jewelry stores outside of the area to hone his skills before he took ownership over 26 years ago. 

 

Warren continues to own and operate the store. In 2010, a 3^rd generation Stewart began working at the store.  After attending school for hand engraving and stone setting, Warren’s son, Whitney, began working at Stewart’s.  Whitney’s primary duty is custom hand engraving.  He can perform custom hand engraving on any metal surface, no matter what the shape of the item.  Whitney attended the Glendo Corporation’s GRSTrainingCenter in Emporia, KS; becoming certified in May 2010. 

 

Stewart’s Jewelers stands out as the only full-fledged jewelry store in the surrounding area.  The father and son team do all their own work in the store, including intricate welding, stone setting and buffing.  Recently, Stewart’s purchased an Orion Jewelry Welder, which allows the flexibility to weld various creations with power and precision.  This tool saves the customer money by allowing for laser-like welds without an expensive price tag.   Stewart’s also specializes in jewelry reconstruction and design.  Ideas for creations can come directly from their customers’ ideas and preferences.  Many of Warren’s finished creations are on display in the store’s showcases.  Besides designing and creating jewelry, Stewart’s stocks many brands from outside jewelry companies.  Special orders are no problem!
